An unusual 3D Easter design created in Vue and illustrating salvation from darkness to light through the cross of Christ. In a dark forest the trees are withered and gnarled, with fog and mist circling their twisted trunks and covering the rocky ground. The woods are bounded by a tall stone wall which blocks any view of the other side. But in the wall is a cross-shaped hole, and the rising sun shines brilliantly through the gap, inviting the viewer to escape from the shadows into the sunlight.

Thy Light Is Come

“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.”
Isaiah 60:1-3

I created this for Easter, but it's also appropriate for Christmas

From Handel's Messiah
O thou, that tellest good tidings to Zion (Arise, shine; for thy light is come)
For, behold, darkness shall cover the earth

A brilliantly-colored flowing abstract framed in gold and studded with diamonds and pearls. Sinuous glowing streams of red, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink curve smoothly, crisscrossing from one great pearl down to the tip, accented at the end by a starburst. This rainbow design is laid against a background of black silk.

Feast of Jewels

I wanted to do something with lots of jewel tones. Created entirely in Paint Shop Pro.

This sparkling design illustrates the lunar cycle in bright gold and deep blue. The jewels representing the moon phases run in a semi-circle from waxing crescent, to first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, and ending on a waning crescent. They are set against a fractal backdrop like the starry sky, with a silvery glowing moon photo from NASA to complete the piece.

A Month in the Life of the Moon

Waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter, waning crescent. You'll have to imagine the new moon …

In this 3D scene, an empty theater is lit with multicolored spotlights of red, pink, blue, green, yellow, and purple, like a harlequin's motley custome. The stage sits ready for a play with its backdrop of a stone castle and three shining golden lanterns. The gnarled branches of an old tree cast twisted shadows on the floor, giving a haunted air to the setting.

This Great Stage of Fools

“When we are born, we cry that we are come
To this great stage of fools”
—King Lear

I had been to an opera, and one of the acts opened with these multicolored spotlights and three lanterns. I decided to recreate a scene like that for April Fool's Day, and the colors made me think of a harlequin or jester's motley costume.

A riot of colorful spring flowers in bright red, blue, purple, pink, and orange. The focus is on a crimson flower in the foreground, with a rainbow of blooms surrounding it. This multi-colored 3D flower garden was created in Vue.

Just playing with flowers and depth of field in Vue.
