A 3D fantasy landscape full of shimmering snow and magical fairy lights. A row of silvery shining lamps lights the trail through a snowy mountain pass hemmed in by steep rocky cliffs. The sparkling snow-covered path is hemmed in by dark fir trees.

Out of Fairyland

This is a reverse of Pass of Light; I basically just turned the (virtual) camera around. It didn't take nearly as long to render without the glowing translucent castle in the background.

A family of red origami cranes floats across the still water of a pool while the raindrops splash around them.

Quiet Rainy Day

I find rainy days very calming …

A colorful outer space fantasy studded with stars. The intergalactic sky is filled with planets and stars rushing through space like bubbles down a stream.

Down the Empyrean Stream

This space fantasy image was inspired by Empyrean from Mike Oldfield's Music of the Spheres.

A close-up of a flaming orange and yellow rose desaturated down to a quieter black and white. Only the water droplets sprinkled on its soft grey petals give a hint of the original sunny colors.

Aeolian Watercolor

I had been doing some pretty colorful pieces, so I thought it would be good to focus on light and shadow for a change. This is a closeup photograph of an orange rose, but I took away all the color except for the water droplets.

A 3D fantasy landscape created in Vue. Above a cold and barren landscape a bird soars through the frozen air toward the sun and its ice rings. This bird is an ice phoenix - the Arctic counterpart of the mythical firebird. Its feathers glow with pale flames in icy shades of blue and lavender. Behind its wings streams a trail of white fire. The ground below is covered in snow and mist, broken by bleak rocks with no sign of life. But the sky above is clear blue, turning to blazing white near the midnight sun.

Phoenix of the North

A cold and barren landscape doesn't have to be grim. I did a phoenix-like abstract work before, so I thought an ice phoenix would be an interesting variation. Created in Vue, with the streaming effect done in Paint Shop Pro. The texture on the phoenix is from the background of Waltz of the Snowflakes.
