A field of cornflowers in shades of deep and pale blue, purple, lavender, and pink, with pale green leaves.

Cornflower Blue

I had planted a couple packets of wildflower seeds in my window boxes, but the list of flowers only had the scientific names, so I didn't really know what I was planting. Well, now I know what cosmos is and that window boxes aren't the best place for it! But the cornflowers were my favorite. I didn't know how many different shades they were. This is not a photograph of my window boxes, but the cornflowers blooming there inspired me to make this virtual cornflower field in Vue.

Warm sunlight streams into immeasurable halls, filled with an everlasting music of water that tinkles into pools. Gems and crystals and veins of precious ore glint in the polished walls.

Glittering Caves of Aglarond

“Immeasurable halls, filled with an everlasting music of water that tinkles into pools. Gems and crystals and veins of precious ore glint in the polished walls; and the light glows through folded marbles, shell-like, translucent as the living hand of Queen Galadriel. There are columns of white and saffron and dawn-rose, fluted and twisted into dreamlike form, they spring up from many-colored floors to meet the glistening pendants of the roof; wings, ropes, curtains fine as frozen clouds; spears, banners, pinnacles of suspended palaces! Still lakes mirror them; a glimmering world looks up from dark pools covered with clear glass.”
The Lord of the Rings, Book III, Chapter 8

I worked on this picture off and on for several months, and I finally got it where I wanted it. This is my 3D digital artwork, not a photograph. Created in Vue Complete 2014.

A bright star hanging in a Christmas tree against a sparkling bokeh background in all the colors of the rainbow.

All Is Bright

I started out with a snowflake ornament, and intended this picture to celebrate the first day of winter, but I decided the star looked better. I think it was still appropriate, to celebrate the Light of the world on the longest night of the year. And that year it was also the new moon, so it was the darkest night as well!

“Silent Night! Holy Night!
All is calm, all is bright
'Round yon virgin mother and Child,
Holy infant so tender and mild.
Sleep in heavenly peace,
sleep in heavenly peace.”

A bright orange leaf sinking beneath a rippling brook, with rays of sunlight falling through the waters to the rocks on the stream bed.

Flame in the Water

Instead of the leaf floating on top of the water, I wanted to try something different and show it from beneath. Created in Vue.

After the wind a single fallen leaf lies where it fell on a silent wind chime. On the ground beneath the still-green grass is covered with yellow and red leaves. In the background a crimson and gold autumn orchard reflects its colors in the silver bars of the chime.

After the Wind

This started out as a “mystery object” picture a while ago, with the camera closer to the windchime so it was harder to recognize. I later reworked it as a fall scene.
