Inside a snow globe is a winter landscape with a cottage overshadowed by bare maple and cherry trees. Snow glitters on the lawn, holly bushes covered with bright red berries flank the door, and snowflakes tumble through the frozen air. Beside the globe a little chickadee looks curiously in at the miniature scene.

Snowflake Globe

This is the final and most “traditional” of my seasonal snow globe scenes. This is what the landscape around here looked like a week ago. Today was 75° F, so this helps me remember it is still winter out there!

Inside a snow globe is a winter landscape with a cottage overshadowed by bare maple and cherry trees. In the windows of the little house candles burn, and on the lawn a Christmas tree sparkles with red and gold. It's an evening at Christmastime, and the lights of a thousand tiny stars fill the globe, with one great Christmas star filling the night with its rays, while the warm beams from inside the cottage light up the surrounding landscape.

Starlight Globe

This is the Christmas version of my seasonal “snow globe” idea.

“‘Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.’

Inside a 'snow globe' is an autumn landscape with a cottage overshadowed by maple and cherry trees. The surrounding field is filled with tall green and golden grass. Roses and ivy climb the wall of the little house. The maple tree is in brilliant fall color, and instead of snow there are maples leaves in shades of red, orange, and yellow swirling around in the globe and blanketing the grass.

In a vivid yellow maple a male cardinal perches, keeping watch over his mate on the nearby bird feeder.

Autumn Guardian

Here in South Carolina my maple tree won't look like this for another month, but this is a sight I've seen many times in previous autumns - a bright red male cardinal in a yellow maple. The cardinals are often the first birds to show up when I refill the bird feeder.
