Dream in Amethyst

This was an exercise in color symbolism. Purple often indicates royalty and wealth. Because it's (relatively) rare in nature, and purple dyes used to be difficult to make and therefore expensive, only the wealthiest could afford to dress in purple.

A 3D landscape in early autumn, depicting a path wandering up through the grass into a misty forest of old and gnarled trees. But the overgrown pathway is barred by a gate of black iron spikes between dark brick walls.

Into the Old Forest

Frodo and his friends are leaving the Shire secretly by going west into the Old Forest, instead of north to the road. The Forest is reached through a break in the Hedge used to keep the unfriendly trees out of the Shire …

A brilliant fractal flow of pale yellow and orange turning to hot pink, overlaid with gold sun-motif filigree studded with jewels and accented with a smooth deep pink gem surrounded by glowing golden sun rays.

In Radiant Splendor

This was the result of playing around with gradient overlays and an old Apophysis render that had been calling for me to find a use for it. The jewel is actually the first one I ever designed in 2008 following a tutorial, but for some reason I missed the part about how to add the shine and couldn't figure out why it looked so flat . Three years later I finally revisited it and came up with this.
